Judith Clark Turpin is one of the founders of Legal Voice (formerly the Northwest Women’s Law Center) and currently serves on the AAUW-WA public policy committee, among other forms of advocacy. 

I have known for some time that two of my nephews are gay. I have watched them grow to be caring, creative, responsible adults.  One of these men was legally married a few years ago in California during a brief window of time that allowed that to happen.   That made so much sense to me – John and Steven are obviously in love and were brought up in families where marriage is valued. Certainly there were practical benefits as well – they can more easily care for each other in sickness and health.  More importantly though, I believe that it was easier for my family to fully accept and understand this relationship than any halfway measure. In any case, Steven has been warmly welcomed into my extended family.   I would hope that some day my nephew Koko might also find the right person and that he would be free to make a decision to marry if he chose to do so.   He deserves no less.  Read More…
